When Karl-Heinz Menzen decided based on an idea in September 1980 to found a hobbyist and do-it-yourself company as a purely family business in the warehouse of a paint shop in the heart of Saarn, he would certainly not have dreamed that today, more than 35 years later, this rational beginning became a true family saga. With its diverse range of products and services, the Menzen hobbyist and home improvement center has become an integral part of Saarn and is known far beyond its borders. At the time, this was a completely new business idea and his courage in this new way of going alone with family members was rewarded. In 1981 he was the first family member to bring his son Thomas straight into the business after successfully completing his apprenticeship as a carpenter, his wife Heidi followed in 1982 and daughter Andrea also joined the family business shortly after completing her training as a display designer.
